The tabletop RPG will allow players to create their own superheroes and explore the world of Invincible, engaging in adventures inspired by the comic’s themes and narrative style. The game is set to launch on Kickstarter later this year, and fans can sign up for notifications on the pre-launch page. The initial release will include a Core Rulebook and a Starter Set, featuring artwork by Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, with graphic design by Johan Nohr (MÖRK BORG).

Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying is being designed by Adam Bradford, founder of D&D Beyond and a producer for Dungeons & Dragons, Cortex Prime, and Marvel titles, alongside Tomas Härenstam, co-founder of Free League and lead designer of games such as ALIEN RPG, Blade Runner RPG, and Mutant: Year Zero.

Bradford expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating:

“Invincible is my favorite comic series, and I’ve wanted to play in this universe for many years. The way the story unfolds in a sprawling saga over the course of 144 issues – without endless retconning – lends itself particularly well to tabletop roleplaying, and I can’t wait for fans to experience their own superhero stories with the game,” says Adam Bradford.

Härenstam also shared his perspective, noting:

“One of my very first tabletop roleplaying games was the old Marvel Superheroes by TSR, and making a superhero RPG has been a lifelong dream. I think the genre, and Invincible’s more grounded and visceral take on it, is a great fit for the Year Zero Engine game mechanics,”

While specific details about the gameplay have not yet been revealed, Free League has confirmed that the game will use the Year Zero Engine, known for its adaptability and focus on narrative-driven experiences.

Free League plans to share more information about the game in the weeks and months leading up to the Kickstarter launch. The exact date for the campaign will be announced at a later time.

Agrella – City of Eternal Euphoria: A Festival of Danger and Intrigue

Free League Publishing has unveiled Agrella – City of Eternal Euphoria, a 176-page hardcover campaign book that takes players to the vibrant and perilous city of Agrella. Written by Erik Hylander (Symbaroum: Adventure Pack 4) and co-written by debutant Marco Zamorano-Tóth, the book is brought to life with stunning illustrations by Gustaf Ekelund (Blade Runner The Roleplaying Game) and cover art by Grant Griffin.

Agrella, a city known for its eternal festivities, is on the brink of its most exciting festival season yet. However, beneath the surface of revelry lies a web of conspiracies and threats. Enemies of the Crown are secretly plotting to wreak havoc, and it’s up to adventurers to uncover the dangers before catastrophe strikes.

The book features The Outrage of Betrayed Brethren campaign, a three-part adventure series that plunges players into the chaos of Agrella’s festivals. It also includes a thorough overview of the city’s history, factions, and conflicts, designed for both players and Game Masters. A freestanding double-sided color map of the city, along with over a dozen interior maps and adventure locations, provides a vivid backdrop for gameplay. Game Masters will find a wealth of resources, including hidden conspiracies, plot hooks, and a variety of establishments for players to explore.

Epic Encounters: Ruins of Symbaroum – A Collaboration with Steamforged Games

Free League Publishing has teamed up with Steamforged Games to bring Symbaroum to Steamforged’s acclaimed Epic Encounters series. The new sets, The Gem in the Barrow and The Corrupted Coloss combine the dark storytelling of Symbaroum with the convenience of Epic Encounters.

Designed to be compatible with both the Symbaroum system and Dungeons & Dragons 5E, these sets include miniatures, maps, and ready-to-play scenarios that capture the strange beauty of Symbaroum.

Epic Encounters: Ruins of Symbaroum is available now from the Steamforged website and other retailers.

The Outgunned core rulebook, along with expansions Action Flicks and World of Killers, the mini-campaign Project Medusa, and a Director Screen, can now be purchased from the Free League webshop. The game will also be featured at the Free League booth (#3035) during PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia from December 6–8.

Outgunned is a roleplaying game inspired by action and heist films. Players take on the roles of Heroes facing off against Villains in a world of high-stakes scenarios. The game uses a system called “Director’s Cut,” where outcomes are determined by rolling combinations of two-, three-, or four-of-a-kind on six-sided dice.

During its Kickstarter campaign, Outgunned raised €286,323, significantly surpassing its €10,000 goal and achieving all stretch goals.

Two Little Mice is a game studio based in Italy, founded by Riccardo Sirignano, Simone Formicola, and artist Daniela Giubellini. The studio focuses on creative design and production, earning recognition with multiple ENNIE Awards.

Visitors to PAX Unplugged can explore Free League’s lineup, including Outgunned, Dragonbane, and The Electric State Roleplaying Game. The Outgunned team will be present at the booth to sign books, and Daniela Giubellini will create custom sketches at scheduled times.

The game introduces a range of features tailored to the themes and tone of Middle-earth, including unique character options, new classes and abilities, and adversaries drawn from Tolkien’s lore. The setting focuses on the land of Eriador during the Third Age, offering players a chance to immerse themselves in one of the most recognizable periods of Middle-earth’s history. Rules for journeys, councils, and the subtle magic of Middle-earth have been designed to align with the storytelling style of the source material, while additional mechanics such as Shadow points add layers of moral complexity to the gameplay.

All of the content from the physical edition, including maps and tokens, has been integrated into D&D Beyond’s digital tools.

The collaboration includes two sets, Gem in the Barrow and Corrupted Coloss, which merge the distinctive elements of Symbaroum with Epic Encounters‘ “adventure-in-a-box” format. Each set includes miniatures, maps, and encounters that are crafted to capture the setting and atmosphere of Symbaroum, known for its immersive storytelling and world design.

Symbaroum, first released in 2016, has been noted for its atmospheric setting and straightforward rules, and it expanded its audience further with the 5E adaptation, Ruins of Symbaroum. This marks the first collaboration in the Epic Encounters series, which has previously been described as a “Blue Apron for Dungeons & Dragons” by Forbes, with over 20 sets currently available.

Steamforged Co-founder and CCO Mat Hart noted the collaboration with Symbaroum designer Mattias Johnsson Haake, saying it was a positive experience working together to bring Symbaroum‘s style into the Epic Encounters format. Haake expressed anticipation for seeing Symbaroum’s signature art represented as Steamforged miniatures, aimed at engaging both existing fans and new players.

Epic Encounters: Ruins of Symbaroum will be released on February 18, 2025, and is available for pre-order on the Steamforged website.

This campaign also introduces a new Starter Set for Vaesen, aimed at newcomers to the game, and a lightly updated Core Rulebook. Early backers pledging within the first 48 hours will receive a complimentary Society lapel pin in engraved brass.

Mythic Carpathia invites players to Central and Eastern Europe, exploring the streets of Prague and its folklore. The expansion includes details about the Pravda Society, a Prague branch dealing with various phenomena, and features local mythical beings such as the Drekavac, Golem, and Baba Yaga. The book presents three new mysteries set in Prague, Ukraine, and Transylvania, with a large map of Prague available as a stretch goal. Developed in partnership with Polish and Ukrainian writers, the book is illustrated by Johan Egerkrans and Anton Vitus.

City of My Nightmares sets players in 19th-century Stockholm, investigating a series of grisly murders with ties to the origins of the Society. This campaign spans four parts and includes a map of Stockholm as a potential stretch goal. Though based in Stockholm, the adventure is adaptable to other Gothic cities. The expansion is written by Kiku Pukk Härenstam and illustrated by Egerkrans and Vitus.

Limited edition giclée prints of the cover art for both expansions are available as add-ons, each print numbered and signed by artist Johan Egerkrans.

The new Starter Set provides an introduction to Vaesen, including simplified rules, character sheets, maps, custom dice, and the introductory adventure The Haunting of Castle Gyllencreutz.

The expansions, Mythic Carpathia and City of My Nightmares, will take players deeper into the eerie world of Nordic and Eastern European folklore. Alongside these expansions, a new Starter Set and updated Core Rulebook will be available, making this a significant update for the RPG.

City of My Nightmares transports players to the bustling streets of 19th-century Stockholm, where grisly murders and a deep mystery threaten the city’s stability. This four-part campaign can also be adapted to other Gothic cities such as London or Prague.

Path of Glory brings together The Dead Forest, Gates of Power, and Heart of Darkness, adventures that were originally part of the Swedish Drakar och Demoner series between 1985 and 1986. The updated campaign retains its original spirit but has been revised with modern rules for the latest edition of Dragonbane. Included with the book is a large double-sided map painted by Francesca Baerald.

This new edition, reimagined by Free League and original author Roger Undhagen, includes new illustrations by David Brasgalla and cover art by Johan Egerkrans. It will be released in both a Standard Edition and a Collector’s Edition featuring a faux leather cover with gold foil details.

The Electric State Roleplaying Game features Stålenhag’s artwork, including new pieces that were not part of the original artbook project. Written by Nils Hintze (Tales From the Loop, Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying) in collaboration with Free League’s core team, the game’s mechanics are based on the Year Zero Engine, used in popular games such as ALIEN and Tales From the Loop, but adapted specifically for this setting.

The game is set in an alternate version of 1997, where technology diverged after the discovery of neuronics in the late 1960s. In this world, society is on the verge of collapse as the Sentre corporation spreads neuronic technology through affordable headsets, causing strange effects across the population. Players will embark on journeys that involve exploration, conflict, and difficult decisions as civilization continues to unravel.

This standalone book provides everything needed to start playing, including a complete short campaign. It is designed to allow players to create their own adventures in this unique setting, exploring themes of survival, technology, and the breakdown of societal structures.

The Electric State Roleplaying Game expands on the universe of Simon Stålenhag’s art, which is also set to be adapted into a film by the Russo brothers, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.
