Through the Shattered Grid: Power Rangers RPG Expansion

The sourcebook also presents 42 new Threats, including the Eltarian super-team Sentry Force Four and the formidable Spa’ark, the Death Ranger. Through the Shattered Grid requires the core Power Rangers Roleplaying Game rulebook to play and is designed to enhance the existing gameplay experience with fresh content and storytelling opportunities.

Technorganic Secrets: Transformers RPG Expansion

Technorganic Secrets focuses on the Beast Wars era of the Transformers universe, introducing new gameplay mechanics and character options. Players can create and roleplay as fan-favorite characters like the Dinobots and Maximals, with new gear options for Alt Modes and Beast Modes. The sourcebook also provides new Origins and Influences for Cybertronians who take on beast forms, including Fuzor combinations and Transmetal forms.

The book includes Threat Stats and Contacts for key characters such as Optimus Primal, Blackarachnia, Grimlock, Tankor, and Megatron, enabling players to explore alternate scenarios and character deviations. Additionally, Technorganic Secrets offers guidance for creating Beast Wars-style campaigns, with advice on managing smaller casts of characters, exploring alien worlds, and handling Quantum Surge events that disrupt reality. The sourcebook also introduces 13 new General Perks, five new weapons, and rules for animal companions, adding further depth to gameplay.

Technorganic Secrets requires the core Transformers Roleplaying Game rulebook to play and is designed to bring the excitement of the Beast Wars era to the tabletop.

Free League and Skybound Announce Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying, a New Tabletop RPG Based on the Popular Comic Series https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/free-league-and-skybound-announce-invincible-superhero-roleplaying-a-new-tabletop-rpg-based-on-the-popular-comic-series/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=free-league-and-skybound-announce-invincible-superhero-roleplaying-a-new-tabletop-rpg-based-on-the-popular-comic-series Tue, 25 Feb 2025 22:39:05 +0000 https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/?p=21534 Free League Publishing and Skybound Entertainment have announced Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying, an upcoming tabletop roleplaying game based on the popular comic book series Invincible by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley. The comic, which has also been adapted into an animated series on Prime Video, is known for its expansive storytelling and unique take on the superhero genre.

The tabletop RPG will allow players to create their own superheroes and explore the world of Invincible, engaging in adventures inspired by the comic’s themes and narrative style. The game is set to launch on Kickstarter later this year, and fans can sign up for notifications on the pre-launch page. The initial release will include a Core Rulebook and a Starter Set, featuring artwork by Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, with graphic design by Johan Nohr (MÖRK BORG).

Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying is being designed by Adam Bradford, founder of D&D Beyond and a producer for Dungeons & Dragons, Cortex Prime, and Marvel titles, alongside Tomas Härenstam, co-founder of Free League and lead designer of games such as ALIEN RPG, Blade Runner RPG, and Mutant: Year Zero.

Bradford expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating:

“Invincible is my favorite comic series, and I’ve wanted to play in this universe for many years. The way the story unfolds in a sprawling saga over the course of 144 issues – without endless retconning – lends itself particularly well to tabletop roleplaying, and I can’t wait for fans to experience their own superhero stories with the game,” says Adam Bradford.

Härenstam also shared his perspective, noting:

“One of my very first tabletop roleplaying games was the old Marvel Superheroes by TSR, and making a superhero RPG has been a lifelong dream. I think the genre, and Invincible’s more grounded and visceral take on it, is a great fit for the Year Zero Engine game mechanics,”

While specific details about the gameplay have not yet been revealed, Free League has confirmed that the game will use the Year Zero Engine, known for its adaptability and focus on narrative-driven experiences.

Free League plans to share more information about the game in the weeks and months leading up to the Kickstarter launch. The exact date for the campaign will be announced at a later time.

The game, titled 6: Siege – The Board Game, will be reprinted and expanded with new content. Pre-orders for the updated version will begin on February 27th.

Originally inspired by Ubisoft’s tactical first-person shooter, Rainbow Six Siege, the board game is designed for 2-4 players and features asymmetrical gameplay. Players take on the roles of attackers or defenders, each with distinct objectives. Attackers aim to breach and secure their target, while defenders work to fortify the environment and prevent their opponents from succeeding. The gameplay emphasizes strategy and adaptability, with destructible maps and a variety of Operator abilities allowing for diverse tactics and replayability. Rich Loxam, co-founder and CEO of Steamforged Games commented on the acquisition:

Rainbow Six Siege has a legacy that speaks for itself, and there’s plenty still to explore on the tabletop. We’re thrilled to be working with Ubisoft to take 6: Siege – The Board Game forward, and look forward to welcoming fans into our community.

In addition to the reprint and new content, Steamforged Games has reached out to backers of the original crowdfunding campaign run by Mythic Games who may have had unfulfilled orders. The studio has offered to assist these backers in completing their purchases.

RipCrypt Dungeon Sprint TTRPG to Launch in 2025 Through Partnership Between Gritsilk Games and Modiphius Entertainment https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/ripcrypt-dungeon-sprint-ttrpg-to-launch-in-2025-through-partnership-between-gritsilk-games-and-modiphius-entertainment/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ripcrypt-dungeon-sprint-ttrpg-to-launch-in-2025-through-partnership-between-gritsilk-games-and-modiphius-entertainment Mon, 24 Feb 2025 20:57:05 +0000 https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/?p=21492 Independent game design studio Gritsilk Games has announced a partnership with Modiphius Entertainment, a well-known publisher of tabletop RPGs, to produce and distribute RipCrypt, a new dungeon sprint tabletop roleplaying game. The game is designed to be easy to learn and quick to play, appealing to both new players and experienced RPG enthusiasts.

The collaboration follows a successful Kickstarter campaign for RipCrypt in early December. Gritsilk Games and Modiphius Entertainment will work together to produce the RipCrypt Core Rulebook, a Premium Rulebook, and the RipCrypt Control Board. The game is expected to fulfill all backer rewards while also becoming available in retail and online stores in 2025.

Set in the Undergrade, a sprawling maze of aqueducts, catacombs, and crypts beneath ancient ruins, RipCrypt combines tactical mechanics with atmospheric storytelling. Players face hazards, traps, and creatures while scavenging for resources and seeking ancient knowledge to ascend to the Overgrade. The game aims to provide an accessible introduction to fantasy roleplaying while offering enough depth to engage veteran players.

Kýnan Antos, founder of Gritsilk Games, commented on the partnership, stating the following:

2025 is the year for modern roleplaying games. RipCrypt is well positioned to disrupt the landscape with its unique and streamlined approach. We partnered with Modiphius to help launch into a much wider market, and are incredibly excited to get this game into the hands of fans and new players internationally.

Chris Birch, co-founder of Modiphius Entertainment, also shared his thoughts.

I saw the Kickstarter for RipCrypt pop up and immediately noticed its appeal. As a personal fan of solo and cooperative roleplaying games saw the possibility for this game to realize its full potential through our ViaModiphius program.

Wizards of the Coast Announces New D&D and Magic: The Gathering Crossover: Lorwyn-Shadowmoor https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/wizards-of-the-coast-announces-new-dd-and-magic-the-gathering-crossover-lorwyn-shadowmoor/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=wizards-of-the-coast-announces-new-dd-and-magic-the-gathering-crossover-lorwyn-shadowmoor Mon, 24 Feb 2025 20:37:52 +0000 https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/?p=21478 During MagicCon Chicago, Wizards of the Coast revealed plans for a new crossover book that will bring the Magic: The Gathering setting of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor to the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The announcement marks the latest collaboration between the two popular franchises, following previous crossovers such as Ravnica and Theros.

The news was shared briefly during the convention and later confirmed in a post on BlueSky.

Lorwyn-Shadowmoor is a distinctive setting within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse, known for its absence of humans and its focus on fae creatures such as Kithkin, Merfolk, Bogarts, and Flamekin. The setting is divided into two contrasting aspects: Lorwyn, a bright and idyllic world of perpetual daylight and midsummer, and Shadowmoor, a darker counterpart where the same creatures take on more sinister roles.

The plane undergoes a cyclical transformation every 300 years, shifting between its Lorwyn and Shadowmoor states. This duality offers a unique backdrop for storytelling and gameplay, with potential for creative mechanics and narrative exploration in the upcoming D&D supplement.

Previous crossovers between Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons have introduced new rules and systems to the 5th Edition of D&D, such as the guild mechanics from Ravnica and the piety system from Theros. It remains to be seen what specific elements from Lorwyn-Shadowmoor will be adapted for the tabletop role-playing game, but the setting’s rich lore and dynamic nature suggest opportunities for innovative gameplay.

No release date has been announced, though speculation points to a possible late 2025 or 2026 launch. As more details emerge, fans of both franchises will be watching closely to see how WotC brings the whimsical and dark world of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor to life in the D&D universe.

QuestWorlds Roleplaying System Launches Worldwide https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/questworlds-roleplaying-system-launches-worldwide/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=questworlds-roleplaying-system-launches-worldwide Thu, 20 Feb 2025 20:18:10 +0000 https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/?p=21437 Chaosium has released QuestWorlds, a new self-contained roleplaying system designed for cinematic and larger-than-life gameplay. Inspired by classic pulps, comic books, and weird fiction, QuestWorlds aims to provide a versatile and accessible experience for players of all levels.

QuestWorlds is a complete roleplaying system that does not require additional books to play. Its rules-light framework focuses on resolving in-game conflicts quickly and efficiently, with a simple core mechanic and optional rules that allow for customization to fit various settings and genres. This flexibility makes it suitable for a wide range of storytelling styles, from action-packed adventures to mysterious explorations.

The system includes streamlined character creation rules, enabling players to design unique characters in a short amount of time. Players can create characters ranging from ordinary individuals to extraordinary heroes, with no limits on creativity.

In addition to character creation, QuestWorlds provides tools for designing custom settings. Players can build their own worlds, whether inspired by classic genres or entirely original concepts, offering a high degree of personalization for their games.

QuestWorlds is currently available in PDF format for $19.99 through Chaosium’s website and DriveThruRPG.

The game reflects the philosophy of Chaosium founder Greg Stafford, who emphasized the cooperative nature of storytelling games. Stafford described such games as a shared experience where players contribute to an ongoing narrative through verbal interaction and imagination.

“In a storytelling game, the object is to participate verbally in the cooperative experience of a story. Everyone talks in order to contribute to the ongoing story. Inevitably, some people will talk a lot, some will talk only a little. Hopefully, everyone will talk a lot when their turn comes around and only a little at other times.

“Play is verbal and imaginative. The action takes place in the minds of the players. This is a social game in the most positive sense of the word. Aggressive competition or legalistic arguments over rules are alien to the spirit of a storytelling game.”

Modiphius Entertainment Announces Hardwar, a New 6mm Sci-Fi Miniatures Game https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/modiphius-entertainment-announces-hardwar-a-new-6mm-sci-fi-miniatures-game/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=modiphius-entertainment-announces-hardwar-a-new-6mm-sci-fi-miniatures-game Thu, 20 Feb 2025 20:05:34 +0000 https://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/?p=21421 Modiphius Entertainment has revealed plans to launch Hardwar, a 6mm scale tactical sci-fi miniatures game, at this year’s GAMA Expo. The game, set in the early 22nd century, will feature fast-paced rules and a hard sci-fi setting, including armored vehicles, mechs, aircraft, and experimental weaponry. A Kickstarter campaign for the game is scheduled to begin this summer.

In Hardwar, players can take on various roles, such as leading a private security company, commanding corporate forces, organizing a revolutionary group, or protecting farmsteads as a marshal. The game offers a range of factions, with options to use pre-built units or create custom forces using a straightforward construction system. Gameplay combines elements of traditional armored warfare with futuristic additions like cybernetics, sentient combat swarms, and electronic countermeasures (ECM).

Originally developed by Strato Minis Studio in Poland, Hardwar was acquired by Modiphius Entertainment in June 2024. Since the acquisition, the game has been updated and redesigned for an international release. The new edition includes a fully revised hardcover rulebook in a digest-size format, incorporating previously PDF-exclusive content such as Extended Hardware and No Heroes. The starter sets have also been re-mastered for improved detail, with miniatures painted by Modiphius’ in-house team, Callum France and Rosie Williams.

The Kickstarter campaign will offer the core rulebook, the first two factions—the Syndicate Taskforce and Consortium Security Squadron—and additional expansions. A preview of the game will be available at AdeptiCon next month.

Chris Birch, co-founder of Modiphius Entertainment, commented on the project, stating;

“With the huge love for mech combat in the community, I saw a great opportunity in Hardwar to tell a different story. One that lets you get more units on your gaming table for fast action battles. We’ve got exciting plans to explore this world and develop the storyline further.”
