Freakz!: Battle Mutant Armies and Harness Eldritch Powers in Osprey Games’ New Miniatures Game by Michael Whelan

Osprey Games is gearing up to release their latest tabletop miniatures game, Freakz!: Mutant Murder Machines, designed by Michael Whelan, also known as “Wheels.” This new game takes players into a post-apocalyptic world where up to eight models per player battle for survival and strange powers in the bomb-torn ruins of ancient cities.

Freakz! offers a fast-paced, rules-light system designed to keep games quick and engaging. With a focus on streamlined mechanics, the game minimizes rule-checking and emphasizes dynamic gameplay. Units in Freakz! start with similar base stats, but the true variety comes from the Artefactz, powerful objects that can fuse with the game’s titular mutants, altering their abilities and stats permanently. Players can collect Artefactz during the game, with over 22,000 potential combinations that can unlock new powers and tactics for their units.

However, there’s a catch. Overloading a unit with too many Artefactz can lead to a dangerous transformation, turning them into a “Cronenberg,” a monstrous force capable of devouring allies and enemies alike. These creatures become even more powerful as they continue to consume more units and Artefactz, adding an unpredictable element to each match.

The game’s lore delves into the influence of the Atomic Godz, mysterious deities born from the nuclear devastation of Earth. In campaign play, players can sacrifice fully upgraded units to these Godz to unlock new game-wide rules, known as Dictatez, that permanently alter the battlefield and gameplay for the remainder of the campaign.

Freakz!: Mutant Murder Machines will be released on October 24th in the UK, with a US launch set for November 1st.
